Top Engineering Entrance Exams in India

1. JEE (Main)


In a list of top 10 engineering entrance exams, the first spot will have to be reserved for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), previously known as the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam). The entrance exam is conducted by NTA ( National Testing Agency) twice a year in month of January and  April for up coming Academic session. The best score in both the exam ( i.e  best score of exams of month of January and April) is considered for merit. It  offers admissions into  NITs (National Institutes of Technology), and also in large number of CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutes). The exam is also a gate way for admission in IITs. It is qualifying exam  for appearing exam of  JEE ( Advanced) which in turn offers admissions in IITs. A certain number of Top most scorer of JEE( Main) are eligible for JEE ( Advanced)  About ten lakh candidates apply for the JEE Main exam, every year.

2. JEE (Advanced)


Top scorer of certain Number of candidates ( as decided by exam conducting body of JEE Advaced) from JEE Main exam are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced for nearly 10,000 seats in 23 IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology). The best score of both the exam of JEE ( Main) is considered for merit for eligibility for  JEE ( advanced). Due to its low acceptance rate, this is considered to be one of the most difficult exams of the country and not only in the list of engineering entrance exams. In JEE 2019, Candidates appeared in JEE ( Main ) 9,29,198 (January) and 9,35,741 (April).  In JEE ( Main ) -2020 Of January attempt ,8,69,010 candidates appeared in Test. Till last year, candidates who qualified the JEE Main and came within top 2,24,000 were allowed to appear for the JEE Advanced.

3. BITSAT


In the list of engineering entrance exams, BITSAT isn’t much far behind the JEEs. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is conducted for the BITS campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. Approximately 2000 seats are available every year. However, the number of candidates appearing is almost 2 lakhs every year, making the admission rate very low. Aspiring candidate must score Minimum 75%  aggregate marks in PCM in 12th standard for admission in BTech and Minimum 75%  aggregate marks in PCM / PCB in 12th standard for admission in BPharma with minimum 60% marks in each subject i.e. P C M B

4. VITEEE


VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam) is common entrance exam for admission in VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT-AP and VIT- Bhopal. VIT Vellore is largely deemed to be the best amongst private engineering colleges. Final selection is based on the ranks through offline counselling process at VIT Campuses. Eligible candidates may select specific Programme / Campus during counselling.

5. SRMJEE


SRMJEEE-UG, SRM Joint Entrance Examination – Engineering for B.Tech is common exam conducted for the SRM Group of Universities viz., SRM Institute of Science & Technology, SRM University AP – Amaravati and SRM University Haryana – Sonepat. SRM Joint Counselling Committee for Admissions (SRMJCCA) is empowered to undertake joint counselling for SRMIST (all four campuses).SRM offers direct admissions to:(i) First rank students of all the  Central and State Boards in India,(ii) Top 10,000 ranker in IIT JEE,(iii) Top ranker in each district of Tamil Nadu and,(iv) Exemplary sports persons at National and International level.

6. KIITEE


KIIT ( Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology), a Deemed to be University offers B.Tech Programme . The Institute  is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), U.K.  Institute of Industrial Technology’s (KIIT) engineering entrance exam witnesses about 1-1.5 lakh candidates every year. Located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, KIIT offers admissions in number of disciplines of Engineering such as the School of Civil Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Biotechnology, and so on. 7. IPU CET


Nearly 1 lakh aspirants attempt the IPU CET (Common Entrance Test) every year, conducted by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This engineering entrance exam offers admissions to nearly 6000 seats in 35 affiliated government institutions, and 81 affiliated private institutions. These institutes are spread across Delhi NCR. Admissions are dependent upon the rank attained by the candidate in the IPU CET.

8. MU-OET


Manipal University conducts the MU-OET (Online Entrance Test) as an umbrella entrance exam. The engineering entrance exam of MU-OET grants admission to candidates into the Manipal Institute of Technology. MIT offers almost 2000 seats every year into its varied courses, such as B. Tech. (Aeronautical Engineering), B. Tech. (Biomedical Engineering), B. Tech. (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering), B. Tech. (Media Technology), and so on.

9. SITEEE


Previously known as SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test), it has been renamed as SITEEE (Symbiosis Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam) from 2018 onwards. The institute offers admissions to around 450 seats in its B. Tech. courses. SITEEE is not a mandatory exam for all aspirants, as SIT also admits students based on their ranks in the JEE (Main) exam.

10. AMUEEE


The engineering entrance exam of Aligarh Muslim University offers around 450 seats in its 7 B. Tech. courses, such as B. Tech. (Civil Engineering), B. Tech. (Petrochemical Engineering), B. Tech. (Electronics Engineering), and so on. AMUEEE will grant admission to qualified candidates in the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, situated in Aligarh. Candidates who apply for the B. Tech. exam may also apply for B. Arch. exam, if they wish to appear for the same.
