Top Engineering Entrance Exams in India

1. JEE (Main)

In a list of top 10 engineering entrance exams, the first spot will have to be reserved for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), previously known as the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam). The entrance exam is conducted by NTA ( National Testing Agency) twice a year in month of January and April for up coming Academic session. The best score in both the exam ( i.e best score of exams of month of January and April) is considered for merit. 2. JEE (Advanced)

The best score of both the exam of JEE ( Main) is considered for merit for eligibility for JEE ( advanced). Due to its low acceptance rate, this is considered to be one of the most difficult exams of the country and not only in the list of engineering entrance exams. In JEE 2019, Candidates appeared in JEE ( Main ) 9,29,198 (January) and 9,35,741 (April). In JEE ( Main ) -2020 Of January attempt ,8,69,010 candidates appeared in Test. 3. BITSAT

In the list of engineering entrance exams, BITSAT isn’t much far behind the JEEs. The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test is conducted for the BITS campuses in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. Approximately 2000 seats are available every year. However, the number of candidates appearing is almost 2 lakhs every year, making the admission rate very low. 4. VITEEE

VITEEE (Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam) is common entrance exam for admission in VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT-AP and VIT- Bhopal. VIT Vellore is largely deemed to be the best amongst private engineering colleges. Final selection is based on the ranks through offline counselling process at VIT Campuses. Eligible candidates may select specific Programme / Campus during counselling.

5. SRMJEE

SRMJEEE-UG, SRM Joint Entrance Examination – Engineering for B.Tech is common exam conducted for the SRM Group of Universities viz., SRM Institute of Science & Technology, SRM University AP – Amaravati and SRM University Haryana – Sonepat. SRM Joint Counselling Committee for Admissions (SRMJCCA) is empowered to undertake joint counselling for SRMIST (all four campuses).SRM offers direct admissions to:(i) First rank students of all the Central and State Boards in India,(ii) Top 10,000 ranker in IIT JEE,(iii) Top ranker in each district of Tamil Nadu and,(iv) Exemplary sports persons at National and International level.

6. KIITEE

KIIT ( Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology), a Deemed to be University offers B.Tech Programme . The Institute is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), U.K. Institute of Industrial Technology’s (KIIT) engineering entrance exam witnesses about 1-1.5 lakh candidates every year. 7. IPU CET

Nearly 1 lakh aspirants attempt the IPU CET (Common Entrance Test) every year, conducted by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU). This engineering entrance exam offers admissions to nearly 6000 seats in 35 affiliated government institutions, and 81 affiliated private institutions. These institutes are spread across Delhi NCR. Admissions are dependent upon the rank attained by the candidate in the IPU CET.

8. MU-OET

Manipal University conducts the MU-OET (Online Entrance Test) as an umbrella entrance exam. The engineering entrance exam of MU-OET grants admission to candidates into the Manipal Institute of Technology. MIT offers almost 2000 seats every year into its varied courses, such as B. Tech. (Aeronautical Engineering), B. Tech. (Biomedical Engineering), B. Tech. (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering), B. Tech. (Media Technology), and so on.

9. SITEEE

Previously known as SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test), it has been renamed as SITEEE (Symbiosis Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Exam) from 2018 onwards. The institute offers admissions to around 450 seats in its B. Tech. courses. SITEEE is not a mandatory exam for all aspirants, as SIT also admits students based on their ranks in the JEE (Main) exam.

10. AMUEEE

The engineering entrance exam of Aligarh Muslim University offers around 450 seats in its 7 B. Tech. courses, such as B. Tech. (Civil Engineering), B. Tech. (Petrochemical Engineering), B. Tech. Shame really. It’s so appealing when a dealership offers you free service for 5 years or up to 80,000km, isn’t it? Especially if you’ve got a fancyish car that requires dealership service to keep the warranty viable that costs anywhere between Rs.31000-63000 each service! What a deal!

So essentially you could be saving up to Rs. 3.5 Lacs in the first five years of your car's life, right? But with these kind of ‘special offers’, just as in the dealer finance scenario, you may not shave all that much off the price of the car, if at all. Wouldn’t you rather negotiate Rs. 3.5 lacs off the sale price and take your car to get serviced at an independent mechanic for Rs. 14000?

‘And for a limited time only.’ Heard that one before? Just to add to the pressure! And that’s the last thing you need. You want to make a decision about buying an expensive item at the right pace. Maybe rethink the special offer so you can stay level headed and negotiate the car you want at the price you can afford. No harm in trying anyway.

3. Fix that rate

Yes, some people prefer the excitement that a variable rate has to offer. Anticipating low rates for some or all of the term of their loan. But what if the RBI cash rate falls and your lender doesn’t pass on the benefits? Kinda feel like you’re being ripped off, right? What if the cash rate goes up and your lender generously increases their rate so that their profit margin stays the same while their customers bear the brunt of it, including you?! Not. Cool.

That’s kind of why I will continue to recommend its readers to opt for a fixed rate when given the opportunity. Not only will you (hopefully) secure a reasonable rate, but you will have the same predictable repayment every month. Month in, month out. It means you can budget for your other monthly expenses around your car repayment. If you always know what your expense are, you technically shouldn’t ever be out of pocket unless your income decreases or your other expense increase. Even more reason to avoid the gamble of a variable rate and opt for a safer, more predictable one.

4. Bonus payments

Well hey there extra money. The bonus cash you received at work, in lotto, as a gift or from your tax return. You know where you’re going to go? Well at least some of any bonus amount you receive from anywhere should really go toward any kind of debt you have. From credit card, mortgage to car loan repayment. Why? Because you can pay off your debt quicker, which also means less interest paid in the long run.

Look at it this way. The quicker you repay or pay off your car loan debt, the quicker you can save for other things... you know, like a holiday!

Here’s another way of looking at this - if you left your debts just as they are, repaying them at the same pace as always, and then you receive extra cash or income from somewhere, somehow. Instead of putting it toward your debt, you put it toward the holiday you’ve been wanting to go on. But your bonus is not enough, so you subsidize the trip with your credit card and get into more debt, increasing the length of time before you’re essentially debt-free and maybe suffocating your financial freedom in the meantime!

Phew. Got that out. Thing is, if you want the freedom and flexibility to repay more when you can, then you need to signup to the right lender and product offering. This is part of the open conversation you need to have with your lender before signing your name to that car loan. Now to work out a way to earn a little more income…

Ever heard of a lender who gives out car loan that give you the flexibility of using some of it for other things like a small renovation at home or pay for your next holiday? I know, right? These loans are likely called personal loans.
